Hill’s Pet Nutrition, Inc. Voluntarily Recalls 62 Bags of “Science Diet® Adult Small & Toy Breed” Dry Dog Food in California, Hawaii and Nevada

Dear pet parents:

I unfortunately have to announce that Hill’s Pet Nutrition is voluntarily recalling 62 bags of Science Diet® Adult Small & Toy Breed dry dog food as they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. These bags were part of a single production run that was accidentally distributed to 17 veterinary clinic and pet store customers in California, Hawaii and Nevada.

Like you, I am very concerned about the health of our pets, so you should know that there have been no reported illnesses related to the recalled products to date.

Hill’s has contacted the 17 affected retail customers and is now in the process of retrieving the recalled bags and notifying consumers who may have purchased any of the affected products. We have also issued a news release to the media in the areas where the products were shipped, which is also posted on the FDA website, to make sure those who may have purchased the products will know about the recall. The release contains specific instructions for pet parents to check if any product they have purchased may be one of the 62 bags affected by the recall.

At Hill’s we take great pride in the quality and safety of our pet food products and have made significant investments in our plants to provide a level of product safety that is second-to-none in our industry. So I deeply regret that these 62 bags were mistakenly sent to some of our customers, I can assure you that we will use what we learn from this incident to further improve our product safety procedures to avoid a mistake of this kind from happening again.

Hill’s Pet Nutrition is dedicated to providing high-quality, safe products. We deeply regret the need for this limited voluntary recall as well as any confusion or concern experienced by our loyal pet parents. We want you to be fully informed, so if you have any questions about this recall, please contact us at 1-800-445-5777 Monday-Friday, 7am-7pm CT.

Sincerely yours,
